Tips on Installing Your DIY Conservatory

There’s always something very satisfying about completing a project yourself, whether it’s putting up a new set of shelves, fitting your new oven or installing your new conservatory. That feeling of accomplishing something yourself as well as saving that money you could have spent on paying the experts to do it.

But sometimes these DIY jobs aren’t as simple as they first seem. Here at Crown Windows we are professional installers and know all there is to know when it comes to installing conservatories. Here are some handy tips to help you become a conservatory building pro!

Tip 1: Planning Permission

Adding a conservatory to your home is considered to be permitted development so you don’t technically need planning permission as long as it abides by several terms and conditions relating to size and height of your conservatory. Out of courtesy to your neighbours it’s always a good idea to run the idea past them to ensure they don’t mind and your conservatory won’t intrude on their privacy at all.

Tip 2: Have You Got The Tools For The Job?

There’s nothing worse than getting started with your DIY project and realising you’re missing an essential tool for the job. Just like when you’re assembling flat pack furniture, the first thing you should check is that all panels, screws, brackets and tools are all present and accounted for.

Tip 3: Is Your Base Ready?

Just like with a house, your conservatory is a solid, permanent structure and needs good quality foundations. So make sure you have assessed the ground you’re placing your conservatory on and are confident it’s stable and that there are no major pipes directly under it. There are various bases that can be constructed for conservatories, the most common one being concrete and brick, so unless you’re a real expert in DIY it might be worth calling in the experts for this part.

Tip 4: Be Prepared

Make sure you have put enough time aside to get the job done; it’s always worth checking the weather forecast as there’s nothing worse than putting a conservatory together in the pouring rain! Do all the relevant research and have a good plan in your head about how you’re going to go about it.
